Let me tell ya, when you’re 16 with one bitch’n ride — 110 feels like 210…

Lyrics — Hold On (Boggie Woggie Beat) …

Intro
There’s nothing like my sweet ride ..
She purrs when I start her,
Roars when I kick her -
Yup, she’s my pride and joy,
One hot, bitch’n toy -
Gives me smiles, mile after mile …
Come on, hop in — let’s take her for a spin,
We’re gonna be ride’n in high style.

Verse
Hold on — we’re gonna go for broke ..
I got the pedal to the metal,
Her front end’s ease’n up –
She’s wild as a black alley cat,
Faster than a midnight bat
Flying from hell’s fire –
She’s red hot — better steer clear of her,
She’s my souped-up ’40 Ford coupe.

Bridge
Here comes the rush —
Wham bamm, doing 120 ..
She’s sweeter than honey,
I’m grabbing the money -
Blowing on by 1–6–9 … she’s so fine!

Verse
There’s nothing much better
Than feeling your heart racing,
When it keeps climbing higher and higher
As you pass 2–10 —
Your nerves stay ready
Trying to keep her steady
Passing everything right on by …
Oh yeah, there’s nothing like feeling my ’40 Ford fly … OH MY!

Always feelin’ like a kid at heart — Alps Drive HS days and that’s me car!

(My HS ride was a ’40 Ford coupe with a chevy V8 under the hood — she could do 120 but when you’re just 16 it feels more like 210/b.d)

As Paul would say …. and now the rest of the story —

Number 1 — I have alway’s been a Gear Head.

Number 2 — When I was 13 I built a chug powered by a 3 HP Briggs-Stratton (this was in the days before go-carts). Obviously, I was the terror in the neighborhood.

Number 3 — When turning 15 I had saved enough jingle to buy a used Cushman Eagle motor scooter and that gave me my first real taste of freedom.

Number 4 — Turning 16, I began a love affair with cars and have so many great memories about my first car — a 1940 Ford Opera Coupe (powered by a ’56 Corvette engine) and of those high school days! And, what’s the first thing a kid of 16 does with his Rod …. yes -you guessed it — pick a race. Never will forget one night cruising the Alps Drive Inn with Kenny Carlson and there was Charlie Stall in his bright red 54 Olds coupe. Well, it only took a “head nod” and off we went to McFarland road — just outside of town for the showdown. The excitement had my nerves on edge and adrenaline was flowing head to toe …. Three hooks and you smelled rubber burning as back tires broke lose sending thrills shooting down your spine faster than a speeding bullet. That was one of the best feelings when my baby inched by Charlie’s Olds. Well, it was years later when I penned lyrics remembering that awesome night.
