New Shoe Blues

I had a hole in my soul
where the weather got in,
you could stand inside my shoes and
tell exactly where I had been,
it was just a sin
the condition my soles was in

and so I went to the soul store
and bought myself some gear
a little somethin to get into
to get myself out of here
but don’t the grass look greener
as long as you don’t get to near

and get you them
new shoe blues, you should feel better
but you’re all blistered and bruised
could be the laces,
could be the leather,
whatever,
you are all contused and confused

you got a change you just can’t use
you’re walkin’ around with them new shoe blues

you can have a change of location,
you can have a change of heart
you change your vocation,
you can even change your art
you change your lovin’ baby
and have that change just
blow your head apart

and give you them
new shoe blues, you should feel better
