Lyte + Concord Music Hall: As if Lollapalooza’s aftershows weren’t awesome enough

Chicago’s Concord Music Hall is one of those live music venues that hosts aftershows even more mind-blowing than the event itself.

Picture the artists who perform at huge, legendary festivals like Lollapalooza or Riot Fest playing in front of their biggest fans. Only they’re in a nearly 1,500-cap venue instead of a field crawling with hundreds of thousands of festival-goers.

“It’s very different in a more intimate setting, for both fans and the artists on stage,” says Jacob Schneider, Concord’s marketing director and brand manager. “When you are at these amazing festivals and then later at our space, it totally elevates the entire experience for everyone.”

Concord Music Hall, a Lyte venue partner since 2017, is nestled between two of Chicago’s most historic and sought-after neighborhoods — Wicker Park and Logan Square. In the six years since the venue first opened its doors, Concord Music Hall has earned a reputation for having one of the best sound systems and productions staffs in the city — and for hosting an eclectic range of artists.

Adam Ant, Faith No More, Primus, Eric Prydz, Deadmau5, Thundercat, and Snoop Dogg are just a few to have graced the stage.

“Whoever you’re seeing, it will feel like you’re in the front row,” Schneider says. “There really isn’t a bad spot in the house.”

Lollapalooza Aftershows

Lollapalooza 2019 has announced five official aftershows at Concord — FKJ on July 31; NGHTMRE and Slander Aug. 1; R.L. Grime Aug. 2.; JID Aug. 3; and San Holo Aug. 4. Each performance is expected to be among the Chicago stop’s most sought-after.

Lyte + Concord Music Hall

Lyte is currently powering two of the Lollapalooza aftershows: FKJ and R.L. Grime — more are anticipated. The platform also is the official fan exchange of Snoop Dogg’s June 29 performance and Chris Lake’s Sept. 7 tour stop.

Schneider first heard of Lyte after meeting CEO Ant Taylor at FlyCon, Ticketfly’s renowned industry conference. Taylor was discussing the Lyte platform as part of a panel. Schneider was immediately intrigued.

“Ant said, ‘Look, you have an opportunity here. If a customer has a death in the family, or has a vacation coming up but already has tickets to an event, it’s not like they can go to the mall and return them with a receipt. Lyte is a resource that can help venues and events accommodate those folks and make sure valid tickets go to fans who want to go.’”

Improving the Fan Experience

Since partnering with Lyte, Concord Music Hall has seen higher redemption rates, lower no-show rates — and zero fraudulent tickets showing up at the door thanks to the exchange.

“Lyte helps us protect our fans from theft, really,” Schneider says. “The secondary market can’t manipulate it. That was attractive to us.”

He adds: “There are some nefarious players out there that will gladly prey on people who want to go to a sold-out event. We’ve had to turn fans away who show up with a ticket they thought was real.”

Chicagoans who attend Concord events notice the difference.

“Fans are happy,” Schneider says. You tell that to any venue and they will agree that is the absolute key — being able to better accommodate our fans. Using Lyte’s exchange after a sellout is the only way to guarantee you’re going to get into the show.”
