Hi there, my name is Alex, and I’m a software engineer at Lytmus. I was actually hired by Lytmus themselves through the Lytmus Platform! Let me tell you more about the experience.

My phone interview with Lytmus was unlike any other. I didn’t answer textbook questions about algorithms or tackle unrealistic brainteasers. Instead, I performed real tasks that I would normally do on the job.

To start off, Chris from Lytmus called me and emailed me an invite link to a Lytmus Virtual Machine. With just a click, I had a full Lytmus VM open in my web browser.

In the Lytmus VM, Chris and I shared the same screen and both of us could interact with the machine. For the interview, he loaded up an incomplete web project with an existing backend API, and had me work in the front-end, implementing a tabular UI with AngularJS.

The VM was very fluid, and it felt like Chris and I were in the same room. He asked me questions about my code and design choices as we delved deep into the tasks. I worked like I always would — Googling for ideas, trying things out, and integrating solutions. It was really cool to be showcasing my talents in a real project!

By the end of the session, I felt like Chris was more a co-worker than an interviewer. I also had a solid grasp for the type of work I’d be doing at Lytmus. During the interview, I didn’t feel nervous, and was confident that I was being given a fair chance to demonstrate my skills.

My experience in the Lytmus VM impressed me, and increased my eagerness to join the company. Fortunately, I received an offer, and am now a proud member of the team! I want to make our platform even better than it is today so that the interview process is more accurate and meaningful for engineers everywhere.
