The “January Thaw” Edition
Dear Folks,
A Moment In Time:
This is our final Sunday Paper with the Obamas In The White House. A lot has been written about The First Lady in the past few weeks, but this is probably my favorite piece about the effect Michelle has had on individual people and the culture at large.
Awards Season: Films To See:
The two hot movies to see are ‘La La Land’ and ‘Moonlight.’ I’m glad I found a review, amongst the many many glowing ones, that reflects how I feel about La La Land. Actually, it reflects only one aspect of the several critical responses I had to the film. But this is a tough film to be harsh about a) because it has one of the best opening sequences of any movie, ever. b) it just broke the record for number of Golden Globes awarded to any one film and c) it is really a sweet confection, in toto, so criticizing it at all is sort of like saying you hate cotton candy or rainbows. In case you were wondering, I don’t care much for cotton candy but I do think rainbows are pretty neat.
If you have only one time-and-energy-for-a-movie slot, see Moonlight. This piece does a good job explaining how in the world this film more than lives up to all its hype, and why the two female characters in the film are so powerful, though complicated and at times even problematic.

The LZ Sunday Paper™ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
