NBA Offseason Update: Kevin Durant “requested” a trade to leave the Nets
According to Adrian Wojnarowski and several sources on Twitter, 2-time NBA champion Kevin Durant has “requested” a trade to leave the Brooklyn Nets. Plus, KD chose both Phoenix and Miami as preferred destinations.
Free agency didn’t start yet, and this news bombshell shut down Twitter and the entire NBA landscape.
According to Woj and several sources, 2-time NBA champion Kevin Durant has “requested” a trade to leave the Brooklyn Nets. To shed light on why this trade request was needed, ESPN Senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski explained the reason for KD leaving the Nets in further detail:
Not only is KD requesting a trade, but he also chose both Phoenix and Miami as his preferred destinations, per @Woj:
The Suns and Heat!
This trade request just got serious real quick for KD to pick those two premiere franchises. I could imagine the trade packages that will be presented in the next coming days for KD. If all fails, there needs to be the 3rd team to get involved in this mega sweepstakes.
Man, I still can’t believe what just happened!
KD has had enough with Nets’ management for not treating his “friend” NBA champion Kyrie Irving well. Furthermore, KD couldn’t take being appreciated as a basketball player, and I don’t blame him. Since KD wants out, this means that the “Kyrie to the Lakers” chatter may soon come to fruition after all.
To accommodate Kevin Durant’s trade request, Woj reported that the Net’s General Manager Sean Marks is “currently” working with Kevin Durant and his business manager Rich Kleiman on finding a trade for him:
For what it’s worth, this trade request by KD was a move we all didn’t see coming.
My takeaway from this blockbuster news is to never stay with a franchise who don’t appreciate what you bring to the table. In Kevin Durant’s case, he was underappreciated every time he stepped on the floor. Furthermore, KD had to be the lone warrior on most nights to carry the team while Kyrie took days off for personal reasons.
As a result, KD averaged the most minutes for the Nets and the team got swept terribly. People forget that 2 seasons ago, he averaged 30 ppg after recovering an Achilles tear and was in consideration for MVP if played longer.
Nevertheless, KD was screwed and he deserves a team that values his game and appreciates what he stands for. All he wants to do is be a hooper and win titles. If for some reason KD chose either Miami or Phoenix, and you add the necessary pieces to win it all, that team will be the heavy favorites to win.
In the end, it is KD’s decision and what is best for him. At this current time, he chose to leave the Nets and enter the next chapter in his basketball career.
I am proud of you, KD!
That was all the news I have for you today!
