By creating a self sustaining machine-to-machine 3D printer environment, Team 8D aims to revolutionize the way 3D printing is incorporated in our day to day lives. This does not necessarily mean a lot will change from an end-user perspective. But it does mean we have a nice puzzle to solve! The team members are from very different backgrounds, resulting in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team that is ready to do just that. The idea is to come up with a way to have people build all the things they want to build without having to think about mundane things such as supplies, logistics, and payment. If you want it, just print it!

After the first 24 hours, the team have moved beyond their original ambition, and leveled-up to incorporate charity. For example, using distributed ledger technology, we could drive 3D printers in disaster areas to create specific things such as schools. Send a 3D printer and see your contribution being transformed into a school printed on-site. It’s very transparent, and you see where your money is going directly. And the ecosystem required for it is essentially the same, but it’s a completely different application of it.
