Welcome to our STEM Student Spotlight series, where we highlight the incredible initiatives and achievements led by STEM students in Canada. Our mission is to empower and inspire the next generation of engineers and innovators by celebrating the achievements of student leaders. In today’s spotlight, we’re excited to showcase Subhan Noor! Subhan is a MacEwan University student who participated in our Work Integrated Learning opportunity.

In the program, he has delved into the potential of data science and creating advanced visualization reports. This blog post explores Subhan’s challenges that reinforced his learning. This experience taught him how to empower data-driven decisions and propel him toward exciting career opportunities.

During the module on Organizing and Manipulating NumPy Arrays, this is what Subhan has to say:

“This module taught me how to split up and combine arrays for organization. With the stacking and splitting functions, arrays can be reorganized.”

“I learned different methods to create NumPy arrays of various shapes and iterate through them. Iteration can be done with for loops.”

After completing the course, Subhan explained his key takeaways and how he will apply his journey.

“My biggest takeaway from this course was learning how to structure my code in an efficient and readable way. Previously, I have struggled with writing well-structured code, and I feel as though I have made vast improvements. This skill will translate to my career as a programmer, regardless of where I work.”

Moving forward with his bundle on Advanced Visualization reports, he has learned to create new projects, such as:

“In this project, I displayed 2020 election data on a plot. The states are colored based upon how Democrat or Republican-leaning they are. Then I deployed the graph to a website.”

Towards the end, Subhan imparted his valuable thoughts and profound insights regarding the potential career-enhancing benefits these courses can offer young individuals.

“The skills taught in this course can benefit young people in their future careers. This course taught me how to manipulate and display data from various sources, which can be useful in data science jobs and any entrepreneurial endeavors I may embark upon.”

By harnessing the capabilities of robust data processing and visualization tools, along with the power of AI and machine learning, Subhan has tapped into the capacity to make informed, data-driven decisions that ignite innovation and bring about impactful change. Please look forward to our next inspiring STEM Student Spotlight series story!
