The team at Maaind consists of neuroscientists, designers, developers, and community-builders passionate about how to optimize the brain to improve cognitive performance and mental wellbeing.

Every week month we read a bunch of books to help us stay on top of our game, here are favourite reads this month.

1) The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg

Recommended by Dr Martin Dinov, Co-Founder

Charles explores the science and real-world practicalities behind habits. What makes up a habit? Spoiler — cue, routine and a reward. You’ll learn how to rewire existing habits, how ‘keystone habits’ affects behaviours in our lives, and to improve them. Charles also shows how a small habit change propagated into large multi-billion dollar improvements for a company and showcases personal stories on how to change your habits to improve your life.

2) Triggers by Marshall Goldsmith

Recommended by Nemunas Antanavicius, Full-Stack Developer

Behaviour change is hard, it’s a process, and it isn’t permanent. Marshall Goldsmith takes you through the methodology and common pitfalls he has learned through decades of experience in coaching peak performers the world over. His principles are easy to learn but difficult to master. Set your goal, divide it into scorable parts and consistently evaluate how well you do. Sounds too simple? Read on!

3) The Organized Mind by Daniel J Levitin

Recommended by Karin Killander, Brand & Community Manager

In an age of information overflow, this is a must-read for anyone interested in learning more about how the brain works and how to make the most of it. You’ll learn how to apply cognitive neuroscience of attention and memory to make changes to your daily life, and learn methods to help take back control of your mind.

This book will make you think twice about what content you consume and how to manage your brain’s processing limit to improve your focus, decision-making skills and creativity.

4) The Book of Human Emotions: An Encyclopedia of Feeling from Anger to Wanderlust by Tiffany Watt Smith

Recommended by Dzera Kaytati, Co-Founder

Emotions and feelings underpin every activity we perform even when we are not directly aware of them. In this well researched and wonderfully curated book, the author takes us on a journey of exploration of 154 rare and familiar feelings. The book highlights some of the historical and cultural events and phenomenons associated with various feelings. It is an educational and incredibly insightful read that makes you reflect on your internal experience and its relationship with the outside world in a very new way. While this is not a book explicitly focused on improving your cognitive performance, you will be surprised just how much richer your self-understanding and self-awareness will become. This book can help you transform how you see and manage feelings which determine how you show up in life and work.
