Things you might not know about Mac Color Picker.
Accessing and Enhancing Mac’s Color Picker.
Color Picker is one thing that Mac has done much better than Windows. It has a lot of features including getting color from anywhere on your screen and importing picture
But Apple did not provide a universal way to access this wonderful picker by default and some applications do not provide access to it.
The good news is you can actually write a one-line application to access the picker with AppleScript command “choose color” or simply just download the finished work from Robin Wood.
Enhancing Color Picker
Moreover, you can also enhance the color picker with the following free plugins:
- Antetype Color Picker — a Photoshop-like Color Picker by Antetype
- Hex Color Picker–quick edit and view hexadecimal color codes
in the standard Mac OS X color panel. This is redundant to the other two here but I like that the input is huge so it’s much easier to use when I don’t need other features. - Skala Color — Color Picker for Designer and Developers
There are other paid plugins as well. I could not find a good reason to pay for them yet but I saw that some designers like Shades.
Lastly, do not forget that there are many free useful tools online e.g. ColorBlender, COLOURlovers, Adobe Kuler, FlatUIColors, ColorHexa, Color Scheme Designer, etc.
