How to sort A ➡️ Z on  Pages

I don’t know about you, but before I was a Mac convert I used Microsoft office, and I loved it. Now I love Pages even more. One feature that was missing from Pages was the ability to sort paragraphs A to Z. This is especially useful when organizing a reference page. I hated rearranging them by hand, and finally I found a useful hack to do so. Today we are going to create a simple service on automator to enable this feature. Before you panic, do not worry. You don’t need any skill other than being able to follow directions and drag and drop. It will take you less than five minutes.

First open automator. It can be found by opening your launchpad in the Other Folder.

Once you have Automator opened create a new Service and click choose.

Now on the panel on the middle right pane select the options Text, Any Application, and check next to Output replaces selected text.

Now we are going to add our first and only service. In the Search Bar outlined in red below, type “Run.” You will see ‘Run Shell Script.’ Drag and drop that into the space outlined below.

Now in the new window that appeared in your workflow space replace the word ‘cat’ with ‘sort’ as shown below.

That’s it!

Now just save your new service as ‘Sort by Paragraph’

Now go to your document and select the text you want sorted. Right click or secondary click (by clicking with two fingers on your track pad) go down to services>Sort by Paragraph. Viola!
