There are two types of innovations. The ground breaking discovery, and the application of an existing innovation. People like Edison and Pascal really discovered/created something no one has ever thought of before. And then there are innovators that applied the ground breaking discovery to the daily life of people and improved it. So to truly improve the quality of life, it takes the scientific genius who can come up with something original, and a business minded genius who can see how it can apply to people's lives. Neither one type can get the whole job done, both are needed.
