Following the news of Apple planning new redesigned MacBook Pros, iMacs and Mac Pros in 2021, the company could also launch a new iPhone with an in-screen fingerprint sensor, according to reports by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. First off, Apple will definitely release an iPhone this year, which has been the tradition since 2007 when the original iPhone launched. This year, we could be getting an “S” version, which would be the first “S” since 2018. And since it’s going to be an S version, we shouldn’t be expecting too many big features or a redesign. But Gurman says the next iPhone could include one big feature, which is an in-screen fingerprint scanner.

The in-screen fingerprint scanner is not a new technology, in fact, it has been appearing on smartphones since 2018. But as we all know, Apple is always late to adopting features like this, but when it eventually does, it makes it exceptionally great. The company will also not be ditching the Face ID, instead it’ll work hand-in-hand with the in-screen fingerprint scanner giving users an alternate mode of authentication, according to Gurman. For example, if you wear a face mask everywhere, you’d want to settle for the in-screen fingerprint scanner to unlock your iPhone.

Alongside the in-screen fingerprint scanner on the next iPhone, Gurman also reports that Apple is working on foldable displays. He said the company is not anywhere near releasing one yet, but it’s a good thing to know that they’re thinking about it. Gurman also confirms that AirTags could finally launch this year and we should expect more iPads with new design.
