A few weeks ago, Apple unveiled a brand new Apple Watch alongside the new iPhones. Specifically, we saw three Apple Watch models: the Series 8, the cheaper 2nd generation SE, and the top-of-the-line Apple Watch Ultra.

We’ve been waiting for the last-mentioned model for a few months, and if you’re the target audience, you’ll surely agree with me when I say that the wait was mostly worth it. However, the target group of Apple Watch Ultra is very narrow and represents mainly extreme athletes.

So let’s take a look together in this article at five reasons why the Apple Watch Ultra is not for everyone.

They have a single colour scheme

Are you one of those individuals who love black, or on the other hand, white or other colour variations? If yes, then in this case, too, Apple Watch Ultra is not for you. This is because they are available in a single colour option, which goes by the name of neutral.

This colour can simply be neutral — light with subtle shades of silver and yellow. In contrast, you can buy the Apple Watch Series 8 in four different colour options — dark ink, star white, silver and red (aluminium), and gold, silver and graphite grey (stainless steel). If you don’t like the design, they are selling. You have no choice but to accept it.

You probably won’t use all the features

The features and technologies of the Apple Watch Series 8 are extended. We can mention the blood oxygen saturation measurement. ECG, cycle tracking with ovulation time estimation, siren, third-generation optical heart rate sensor, body temperature sensor, special Action button, dual-frequency GPS, depth and water temperature sensors, dive computer app, two speakers, three microphones and much more.

A massive list of features is nice, but what good are all these features if you cannot use them? The Apple Watch Series 8 doesn’t have some of these features, but that won’t bother most users.

They are expensive

They cost you almost as much as a basic MacBook Air, and you can work on that. The basic Series 8 model costs half that. So if you’re not an avid athlete, I might consider getting two different colour options. If you throw in less than $100, you can buy a basic iPhone 14. Or an iPhone 13 with 256GB of storage.

High weight

The body of the Apple Watch Ultra is made of aerospace-grade titanium, almost half the weight of aluminium. It boasts great toughness and corrosion resistance, so it’s right for extreme athletes. Still, it’s worth noting that the Apple Watch Ultra in titanium is heavier than the Apple Watch Series 8.

While the Apple Watch Ultra weighs 61.3 grams, the 45mm Series 8 in aluminium weighs just 38.8 grams, and the stainless steel weighs 51.5 grams. In addition, the Apple Watch Ultra is generally more substantial in every way, so there’s a greater likelihood of you stumbling over it somewhere.

They are huge

Right off the bat, it’s important to mention that the Apple Watch Ultra is huge — the largest in the history of Apple Watches. Specifically, its body is 49 millimetres in size, a full four millimetres larger than the body of the largest Series 7 and 8 to date.

So in case, you’re one of those individuals who don’t have a very big wrist, forget about the Apple Watch Ultra, as it will look comical. They are not sold in a smaller sizes for women, so if you are a woman or a man with a small wrist, this might not be the right fit for you.
