At this year’s fall conference, Apple expectedly unveiled brand new Apple phones. Specifically, we’re talking about a foursome in the form of the iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. This means the Californian giant has probably “walled off” the most miniature model called mini for good, replacing it with the opposite model Plus.

As for the novelties, there are many of them, especially in the top models with the Pro label. But I certainly do not mean that the classic models are identical to last year’s “thirteen”. In this article, let’s look at five things about the new iPhone 14 (Pro) that are practically not discussed.

Movie mode improvements

With the arrival of the iPhone 13 (Pro), we also got a brand new movie mode, through which you can shoot professional-looking footage on the Apple phones with the ability to refocus in real-time and post-production. Until now, the maximum you could shoot in movie mode was 1080p at 30 FPS, which may not be enough for some users in terms of quality.

With the new iPhone 14 (Pro), however, Apple has improved the quality of Movie Mode recording so that you can shoot at up to 4K resolution, either 24 FPS or even 30 FPS.

Just the white box

If you’ve bought a Pro-branded iPhone in recent years, you’ll remember getting it in a black box. This black box was different from the white box of the classic models. It represented the professionalism that the colour black has been associated with practically forever in the apple world.

But Apple decided to ditch the black box for this year’s iPhone 14 Pro (Max). That means all four models will ship in a white package. Please let me know if you know why Apple used only white boxes.

Active camera and microphone indicator

The dynamic island is perhaps the most exciting part of the new iPhone 14 Pro (Max). We’ve already devoted one paragraph to it in this article, but unfortunately, that’s not enough, as it hides several other options that aren’t mentioned. As you know, within iOS, a green or orange dot indicates the active camera or microphone respectively.

On the new iPhone 14 Pro (Max), this indicator has moved right into the dynamic island, between the TrueDepth front camera and the infrared camera with a dot projector. This means there is a piece of the display between these components, so the islands are two, as depicted on most pre-reveal concepts.

However, Apple has “blacked out” the space between these islands in software and reserved it for the indicator only, which is very interesting.

The dynamic isle is the touchable

For the top-of-the-line iPhone 14 Pro (Max), Apple has replaced the traditional cutout with a cutout that has been given the name Dynamic Isle. Specifically, it’s shaped like a pill. Apple made it a fully functional and interactive feature that became an integral part of the iOS operating system and set the direction iPhones would take in the years to come.

Many users think that it is practically a “dead” part of the display, similar to the way it is in models with a cutout. But the opposite is true, as the dynamic edge on the new iPhone 14 Pro (Max) is responsive to touch. Specifically, you can use it to quickly open an app that uses it, such as the Music app when playing music, etc.

Enhanced sensors (not only) for traffic accident detection

With the arrival of the new iPhone 14 (Pro) and the trio of Apple Watch Series 8, second-generation SE and Pro models, we’ve seen the introduction of a new feature called Traffic Accident Detection. As the name suggests, the new iPhones and Apple Watch can now detect a traffic accident and contact emergency services if necessary.

For the Apple phones and watches to properly assess a traffic accident, they needed to deploy a new dual-core accelerometer and a highly dynamic gyroscope, measuring up to 256 G’s of overload. Also new is the barometer, which can detect pressure changes, which is useful when the airbag deploys. In addition, more sensitive microphones are also used to detect traffic accidents.
