Make it easier to navigate the files and folders on your Mac with these five tips

As a relatively recent Mac convert, the biggest thing I miss about Windows is Explorer. It’s simply much better than Mac Finder. Face facts, Macolytes.

However, in the 18 months or so I’ve been using it, I’ve found ways to improve the Mac Finder and (dare I say it) make it more Explorer-like.

Here are my tips for making the Mac Finder better.

1. Show the file path

The file path appears at the foot of the Finder window

Finder makes it more difficult than it should to move back and forth between folders. One way to alleviate the pain here is to show the file path in Finder, which is hidden by default.

This means that you can easily flick back to a parent folder, simply by double-clicking the name of that folder in the file path. Why this is a double-click instead of a single click beats the hell out of me…

The file path appears at the foot of the Finder window, not the top as you might be used to from Windows, but you’ll soon get used to it.
