Apple Please Bring Back the MacBook Adorable
It’s Past Time for Apple to Reclaim the Ultraportable Crown
What are the biggest “Wow” moments in Apple’s history? It’s nearly impossible to argue with placing Steve Jobs’ Macworld 2007 reveal of the iPhone (the “Jesus phone”) at the top of the list. Second place is a little tougher call, but Jobs’ introduction of the original 128K Macintosh, the computer that showed us why 1984 wouldn’t be like 1984, is a worthy candidate. And that brings us to my choice for number three on the list.
Only a single year after the world-altering release of the iPhone, Apple followed up with “The world’s thinnest notebook”, announcing the MacBook Air at Macworld 2008. When Jobs pulled the MacBook Air out of that manila envelope he revealed a new standard for ultraportable computing. A product so groundbreaking it’s been wildly popular for sixteen years with relatively little change.
The iPhone, the 128K Macintosh, the MacBook Air, and numerous other groundbreaking Apple products represent the essential greatness of Apple. Making huge leaps forward with product designs that redefine the state of the art. Ultraportable computers are taking another leap forward but this time it isn’t delivered in an Apple product.
