Apple Retired the iPod — Why Apple Should Bring it Back

Apple still has a fan base willing to buy a new one

Several days ago, Apple officially discontinued the iPod Touch. Apple labeled the iPod Touch as “while supplies last”, hinting they had no intention of producing more units.

It makes sense why Apple chose to retire the iPod in 2022. With the global chip shortage affecting all electronics resulting from the pandemic, Apple needs to prioritize creating chips for their iPhones and Macs. After all, iPhones accounted for 58% of Apple’s revenue in Q1 of 2022.

However, when the chip shortage recovers, Apple should bring back the iPod Touch and iPod Classic. They should also relaunch the Nano and Shuffle.

Not all parents want to spend money on an iPad for their kids

On Apple’s website, Apple’s most affordable iPad (9th generation) costs $329. However, the iPod Touch cost $199 before supplies ran out.

The iPod Touch is a less expensive entrance into the iOS ecosystem for parents who want to give their children a device to play games on or watch YouTube.
