On your mark. Get set. Here we go.

The Apple Watch Series 7, announced back in September 2021, is the current iteration of the Apple Watch that was originally launched in 2015.

The Apple Watch Series 7 builds on the design of previous Apple Watch models with a more rounded design and offers some notable new features like a larger display, improved durability, and faster charging.

Are these features reason enough for you to go for the Series 7?

We shall explore that bit in a moment. But first, the customary product shot. In its full glory. Read on.

Display

Apple Watch Series 7 has the biggest and largest display ever to date. It also is the most advanced display yet. Don’t take a word of what I say. Just have a look at the image below. Simply gorgeous.

Series 7 represents their biggest and brightest thinking yet — Apple.

The larger display enhances the entire experience, making Apple Watch easier to use and read.

Now coming to the screen sizes of the previous vs the current one.

For this, let me do a side-by-side visual comparison of the screen sizes of Apple Watch Series 3, Series 6, and Series 7 respectively.

So, if you are owning an Apple Watch 3 currently, then the difference is quite striking. Hope you would agree with me on that.

According to Apple, for Series 7, they had to create a bigger display while barely expanding the dimensions of the watch itself.

To do so, the display was completely re‑engineered reducing the borders by 40%, which allows for nearly 20% more screen area than Series 6. Over 50% more screen than Series 3. That’s something to smile about.

Physics be damned.

Always-On

Retina display.

You don’t need to raise your wrist or touch the screen to see the time or other information and complications on your watch face, because the display is always on.

Presenting a brighter view of you.

And now, it’s 70% brighter indoors when your wrist is down.

Tweaks

Across the system, buttons have been redesigned to take advantage of the larger display. So using apps like Calculator, Stopwatch and Timer are easier than ever.

Tap. Type. Swipe. Easy Peasy.

An Apple Watch first — a new QWERTY keyboard lets you tap or slide from letter to letter with QuickPath. It uses machine learning to predict the word you’re typing.

Using Scribble, you can now write letters on your screen and compose a text or email. The larger display makes it faster and easier for all finger types.

Easy on the eyes. Easy on the fingers.

Durability

Fundamental design changes were needed to achieve the vision of the larger Always-On Retina display. These same innovations also helped make the most crack-resistant front crystal yet.

Series 7 is the most durable Apple Watch ever built.Period.

The front crystal is over twice as thick at its tallest point than Apple Watch Series 6, adding strength and durability. It has been redesigned with a flat base; creating a sturdier shape more resistant to cracks.

As per Apple, Series 7 is crack resistant, dust resistant, and water resistant too.

Quite robust, I must say.

Health

The future of your health. With new insights and on your wrist.

Apple Watch Series 7 allows you to take on-demand readings of your blood oxygen as well as background readings, day and night.

Measure your blood oxygen.Anytime.Anywhere.

Blood oxygen level is a key indicator of your overall wellness. It can help you understand how well your body is absorbing oxygen and the amount of oxygen delivered to your body.

With the ECG app, Apple Watch Series 7 is capable of generating an ECG similar to a single-lead electrocardiogram.

Take an ECG at any time.Just place your finger on the crown.

You can even check your heart rate too.

It’s a momentous achievement for a wearable device that can provide critical data for doctors and peace of mind for you.

Focus

Apple Watch Series 7 works even when you are asleep.

How refreshing

The Sleep app doesn’t just keep track of your sleep. It also helps you create a schedule and a bedtime routine so you can meet your sleep goals. It even tracks your respiratory rate while you’re sleeping.

With Series 7, Apple has introduced the new Reflect feature in the Mindfulness app that helps you set an intention and center yourself with a beautiful animation.

Relax.Pause.Breath.Repeat.

So peaceful. Taking a moment throughout the day to pause and breathe can reduce stress.

Fitness

But with some fun. With Apple Music, you’ve got 75 million tracks of musical motivation riding on your wrist.

Track all the ways you move.

There are also podcasts to help you lose calories and yourself along the way.

Series 7 keeps all the things you care about front and center with its larger screen. And with available cellular, you can stay connected to your family, friends, music, notifications, photos, and more — even when you don’t have your phone.

One more thing

From start to finish. That’s motivation. Inside out.

Activity Rings.

Move, Exercise and Stand. Three rings that show all the ways you move throughout the day.

Activity Sharing.

You can share your Activity rings with friends and family to encourage each other.

You can now invite friends to compete in a seven-day Activity challenge.

Maps

With Series 7, Maps makes it easy every step of the way. Gentle taps from the taptic engine now tell you whether to turn left or right.

Watch faces

Create your own watch face with zero complications tailored to whatever you’re into. If you’re a surfer, see the tides, wind, and water temperature at a glance. You can even share faces with friends and family by email or text.

Final thoughts

So should you buy the new Apple Watch Series 7?

Here are my 2 cents. I will divide my answer into two parts :

1. First-time Apple Watch user

If you are someone who is buying an Apple Watch for the first time, I suggest you have a look at Apple Watch SE or last year’s Apple Watch Series 6.

I suggest you do a quick comparison from here before you make any purchase. This would help you save few extra bucks.

Both of the above models have everything that Apple Watch Series 7 offers minus few features like blood oxygen, ECG, a marginally bigger display, and a newer chip.

So, in case you made up your mind to buy the Apple Watch Series 7, you need to wait as it would be available for purchase later this month.

Else you can buy the Apple Watch SE from here and the Apple Watch Series 6 from here.

2. Existing Apple Watch user

If you are an existing Apple Watch user, unless you are using a Series 3 or lower, there is no point upgrading to Series 7. There simply isn’t anything worthwhile enough.

I personally use an Apple Watch SE. Switched from Series 3 to SE and I’m more than satisfied with it.

Now here’s the thing. All that I mentioned above is a practical viewpoint.

But, if you badly want to own a Series 7, then forget everything I mentioned above. That would be mumbo jumbo for you.

Just go ahead. Have one last look at the craftsmanship of Series 7. Stunning.

Hope all this helps you in making an informed decision. Now it’s time for today’s question before I wrap up. The question is

What is it that you look forward to from an Apple Watch?

Please do let me know in the comments. If you want to refer to my previous blog, here is the link below.

Alright then. Time to leave you with your thoughts. Hope you have a great time.

Peace!
