Every year, Apple ought to come up with new products and releases, and it’s needless to say that it has become a ritual. Apple keeps on working on new products all around the year while the audience keeps on waiting for them. So, with last year’s end (the might end of the decade), there was a rumor that Apple is now working on an iPhone with zero ports.

As per the reports, this iPhone might be coming out in 2021, and if you have been the Apple Watch user, this might not be a surprise for you. This is because Apple has been working on reducing, minimizing, and standardizing the devices with zero to minimal ports. With this notion, they intend to devise connection in a unified cable.

There are high chances that Thunderbolt cable will be used because it has been designed with similar connectors as compared to the USB-C protocols. But eliminating the ports from scratch is an intense decision, but this has been tried with HomePod and Apple Watch already. But the question remains constant if the iPhone is supposed to have the port of not.

This notion has sparked multiple discussions in the niche, and with this article, we are putting forward all the information that we have collected with our research. So, let’s see what Apple has to say and what might see the light of the body with these advanced techniques and technology!

For all the people who are team port-less, there are multiple reasons backing up the cause, and one of them is the need to enhance the hardware connection. This is because the devices were in a crucial need for restoration. Recently, Apple has launched iOS 13.4 beta and has been integrated with a hidden OS recovery mode, which is highly likely to operate on wireless infrastructure.

Well, these features aren’t the newest ones out there because Macs have been integrated with recovery modes in the past. There was a time when Apple would disperse its software update with physical media, and computers were integrated with disk drives, but the trends have changed. So, the question arises if the iPhone could be leading the way for this innovation as well.

With the beta version, there is a reflection that recovery mode might be integrated into other Apple products as well as inclusive of HomePod, iPad, and Apple Watch. However, as we have already mentioned the port-less construction of HomePod and Apple Watch but even then, they might be getting a reboot as well.

Before you start raving about it, it is important to acknowledge that wireless recovery won’t ask for integrating the power plugging into the device directly. But if your device doesn’t have the air restoration, the plugging power won’t come to any benefit either.

iPhones are supposed to be charged with cables, and that’s another reason why the iPhone might not be getting the port-less features. A decade ago, the chargers with micro-USB were the standard chargers for phones other than Apple because the European Union had made it mandatory to equip the phones with standardized and universal charging ports.

However, the modern devices are integrated with USB-C connector and have been widely used. When Apple and iPhones are concerned, they have been using the lightning port, but the Mac laptops and iPad Pro is still designed with USB-C ports. As a tech geek, one needs to find the answer if Apple will eliminate the ports with such regulations available while thinking about the possible moots that will charge the phones instead of charging cables.

There are multiple factors stopping Apple from going completely port-less with their iPhones because Apple needs to address the issues with USB connections. For instance, the iPhones show prompts if the charger isn’t compatible and with wireless iPhone, how are people going to know about the insufficient support. Even more, there will be an all-time need for backup batteries.

It’s needless to say that Bluetooth headphones and AirPods are being used commonly, but still, Apple has always been adding the lightning headphones in the box. If Apple goes with a port-less iPhone, it will need to offer wireless headphones as well, which is a higher cost. So, there are high chances that Apple will stop offering these headphones.

The wireless charging might sound all fancy, but it tends to be less efficient as compared to cable charging. Even more, using the phone while it’s being charged wirelessly. But Apple is already working on effective options such as offering charging pucks. Even with all these issues, designing and offering the port-less iPhone is an attractive point for Apple as well as the customer base.

With the plethora of downsides that everyone is talking about, people need to reflect on the positive sides as well. For instance, the port-less iPhone will have effective waterproofing, and even more, there are lesser chances of lint accumulating in the charging port. On top of everything, there is no need to worry about cables.

These extensive discussions have talked about the port-less iPhones, but some people are still unaware of the meaning. So, the port-less iPhone will be designed with no 3.5mm headphone jack, and also, there will not be charging ports, be it the lightning ports or USB-C sport. The phone will depend on wireless charging, data transfer, and audio transmission.

For now, these things are just concepts, but we know how Apple is always bringing out the impossible. This can be seen because Prosser has claimed in his tweet that Apple will be opting for port-less options before they explore the USB-C port options.

The concept seems to be pretty futuristic, and Apple is highly interested in bringing the future to their present products. All in all, there is a fine line deciding if Apple will integrate iPhone 12 with port-less features or not; only the time will tell?
