Apple’s Biggest CHALLENGE With the M3 Chips
Can Apple beat Apple?
During the October 30th “Scary Fast” event, Apple launched its new M3 family of chips:
- M3
- M3 Pro
- M3 Max
These new chips power the next generation iMac and 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros and bring with them impressive performance gains over the previous-generation M2 family.
But Apple has a bit of a problem, and it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. What is that problem, you ask?
It’s chips are too good.
Another year, another chip.
It’s expected, as time goes on, that we’ll see newer, better and faster chips with more or faster cores and better power efficiency and new capabilities.
This year, Apple silicon has ray tracing baked in, which is an impressive upgrade for those who want the best in real time 3D rendering. Previously, that’s something that would have led most to buy a Windows system with a dedicated NVIDIA or AMD GPU.
This year’s chips are said to be significantly faster than the M2 series, which is nice to see. The previous generation, while an improvement, wasn’t an earth shattering upgrade over M1.
