Apple’s iPad Pro Magic Keyboard is kind of genius

The odds of ever seeing touchscreen Mac are now close to zero

I’ve been using the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard for the past four days, and I am thoroughly impressed. After so many years of hoping for Apple to take the iPad seriously and to make it more Mac-like, my wish has finally come true.

The Magic Keyboard completely transforms the way you use and think about the iPad. It has a trackpad and a real keyboard with scissor-switches that feel the MacBook’s keys. The iPad magnetically attaches to a cantilevered hinge, and you can tilt it to more angles than the Smart Keyboard Folio. It even has a USB C port for charging.

In a word, it’s magical. And, in some ways, it reintroduces you to why the iPad is such a great tablet all over again.

So let’s start with the obvious. The Magic Keyboard is an expensive accessory. It costs as much as the original iPad and having spent a week with it has become apparent why it’s so expensive. The build quality is excellent. It’s sturdy, and the hinge is stiff and inspires confidence that the iPad is not going to slide off accidentally.
