Still from Apple’s “Scary Fast” event
Still from Apple’s “Scary Fast” event

It’s been a few weeks since Apple’s “Scary Fast” event proclaimed the company’s continuing processor superiority over the rest of the industry. But what seemed undeniably true three years ago, when the company launched Apple silicon with the M1, is at best highly questionable today. Here’s Tim Cook kicking off the event with his ode to the Mac and Apple silicon:

We continue to push the Mac forward. It has been completely transformed by Apple Silicon, with its game-changing performance, advanced technologies, and industry-leading power efficiency. Apple silicon has driven the creation of the strongest and most capable lineup in the history of the personal computer.

And this transformation has been especially profound for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. The remarkable efficiency of Apple silicon has given them incredible performance, extraordinary battery life, and unprecedented capabilities, all in amazingly compact designs. They are the best in the industry by far.

I’m tempted to quote Luke Skywalker on Crait: “Amazing, every word of what you just said was wrong.” But that wouldn’t be fair. Apple silicon continues to wear the power efficiency crown. At least for now. But nothing else from Tim’s introduction…
