Apple spent several years researching the potential of making its Apple Watch compatible with Android handsets, according to Apple’s response to a complaint filed on Wednesday by the US Department of Justice. Despite prior reports indicating Apple’s work in this direction, this is the company’s first official acknowledgment of its plans to expand Apple Watch compatibility to Android devices.

According to the 88-page answer to the US Department of Justice complaint, 9to5Mac believes that Apple considered making the Apple Watch compatible with Android phones.
