Apple’s Studio Display Saves The Day
Finally, an Apple external monitor for mere mortals.
I hadn’t been expecting any significant product announcements at Apple’s Peek Performance event. A new iPhone SE. A new iPad Air. Maybe a new Mac. Yawn. I even wrote a story last month about how disappointing this event would likely be. But then, less than twenty-four hours before the event I listened to the following exchange amongst the Accidental Tech Podcasters:
Casey: Do you think there’ll be displays?
John: I haven’t even seen any rumors about that.
Casey: Hey man, you never know what will happen.
Marco: I’ve only heard like wish lists. People want there to be displays. I’ve seen nothing to suggest that there will be.
John: There are rumors that they’re working on them, but not that they’re imminent.
Marco: Yeah, exactly. Based on the state of the rumors it still feels like they are half a year to a year out.
And I thought, oh, wait a second. If these guys who are so wrong about so many things say there’s no way Apple will announce a display, then there’s a better than average chance that we could see one. So I started to hope. Which is a good thing, maybe the best of things¹.
Before I knew it, the event had started and Tim was whipping through the announcements…
