Can The iPad Really Replace Your PS5?
Keen to tout the power of its latest chipsets, Apple commissioned ports of a series of graphically intensive videogames. Traditionally the realm of consoles, these titles served their purpose: to show that the iPhone Pro models were as powerful as a PlayStation 5. Although sales figures for this software have been pretty dismal it’s one more thing an iPhone can do that its rivals cannot.
Despite being a fan of iOS gaming, I know that my handset isn’t going to replace my console. These games were originally built for bigger displays and multiple inputs and have not really been properly optimised or built with mobile in mind. So what about a device with a bigger display and more power?
Apple shook up the world of computing with its M-Series processors and was quick to put them in iPads. Whilst many still wonder if the apps of a tablet needs all that grunt, gaming definitely does. A shared codebase with the iPhone means that these HD ports are also available on the iPad Air/Pro lines and in many cases perform a lot better. With a minimum 11” display and easy video-out, coupled with a controller an iPad makes a great gaming device. But what software is there and could it really replace your console? Lets take a look!
