Are you aware of the Decoy Effect? Let me explain it.
Imagine walking into an Apple Store to buy a MacBook Air M3. You’ve done your research, set your budget, and decided. But as you leave, you’re carrying an M4 MacBook Pro instead. What happened?
This is Apple’s price strategy at play. The MacBook Air with sufficient storage and a bigger display size is priced so close to the base MacBook Pro that it makes you rethink your choice. The Pro feels like a better deal.
And if you use Apple products, you’ve probably been through this. People either buy a device they don’t need or settle for a model that fits their budget but doesn’t meet their actual use case. They underplay. Why? Because they’re too cautious of this decoy effect and overanalyze their choice. In both cases, the customer loses.
The right strategy? Know exactly what you need and stick to it. Never let money be the defining factor when buying Apple products — because everything is expensive. Buy what serves you best, irrespective of price.
