We’ve been hearing rumors and concepts for years now about these crazy new Apple AR glasses, but today we got the inside scoop from reputable Apple leaker Jon Prosser from the YouTube channel FrontPageTech.

Prosser has heard from sources inside Apple that they are planning to introduce this glasses as early as Q4 2020 or Q1 2021 and here’s everything you need to know about them:

Name and functionality

According to Prosser, these AR glasses will be called Apple Glass (original, huh?). All data processing will happen on your iPhone, similar to the first generation Apple Watch, and they will be controlled with gestures on the frame or air gestures.

Design

No one knows for sure what the design will be, except for the prototype that Prosser saw, which had a plastic design (again final material could change) and look pretty much like normal glasses. Apple doesn’t want to have a crazy futuristic design because they want them to look like normal glasses. Not only they will look like normal glasses but you can also add a prescription, so they will work like normal glasses too.

Also, they will have a LiDAR sensor, first introduced in iPad Pro, to understand your surroundings but no camera, for privacy reasons. Apple has been collecting data from iPad Pro’s LiDAR to perfect the Glass experience. Content will be displayed in both lenses and they are heavily focused on scanning proprietary Apple QR code.

In addition to this, they will wirelessly charge (flipped outside down) on a plastic stand that is provided in the box. They wanted to also release sunglasses but they are having trouble with the displays working in the tinted lenses.

Price

Apple is known for having crazy high price tags, so when you hear Apple AR glasses you think a thousand, maybe even 2000 dollars. However, it turns out that they are only going to cost $499 + price of prescription.
