If you like Face ID in your iPhone and iPad, get excited because Apple has hinted Face ID for MacBooks. As of now, Macbook only has Touch ID integrated into the keyboard but that might be changing soon.

People were able to find a new extension on macOS Big Sur beta 3 with codes intended to support “PearlCamera.” You may not remember, but this is the internal codename Apple uses for the TrueDepth camera and Face ID, which was first revealed with the iPhone X leaks in 2017.

Codes such as “FaceDetect” and “Bio Capture” were found within this extension confirms that Apple is preparing macOS to operate with Face ID, as these codes are similar to those used by iOS. People investigated and this Face ID extension was clearly built for macOS, and it’s not some remnant code from Catalyst technology.

So when should we expect this feature?

The implementation is still in the early stages, so it might take some time before Apple announces a new Mac model with the TrueDepth camera to support Face ID. So, We know for sure that Apple won’t be launching next year. So we should expect this feature around 2022.

Benefits of Face ID?

Having a FaceID would allow Macbook user to play with Animojis, and should expect thinner bezels (not a notch). Apple might also improve its camera in Macbook’s because in COVID a lot of people have started using it to attend meetings.
