Fighting in the Streaming Wars

Unsolicited advice for the major contenders

A clickbait headline to begin with, just great. We’re not in a Streaming War, because it’s not a zero-sum game:

It’s not as though media companies will revert to traditional linear distribution channels if they don’t “win” the streaming war by having the most subscribers. It’s clear that on-demand streaming is the future that consumers prefer.

Having said that, technology shifts (in this case from cable to internet) are “always the most significant opportunity for market share shifts and for new entrants to invade the market”.

Hence I tried to sum up current challenges and strategic options for the big players (everyone else should maybe not compete at all). I know, I’m not better than the average sports fan who screams at the TV while sitting on his couch — everybody knows how to coach better!

But since my suggestions aren’t exactly common knowledge, I’ll list them here. We’re going to tackle 5 different companies, so it’s a lot of information condensed into a readable format. Please check out the links to learn more.

Now that Disney+ launched (in the US) the Streaming Wars are officially on.
