The iPad is a device that many users can’t get enough of. However, it’s important to note that only a specific group of users can realistically use the potential of an Apple tablet — if you can’t imagine working with it, you’re probably not its target audience.

Apple is constantly trying to improve the iPad and its iPadOS in every possible way to reach more and more people. For example, the iPad is very popular with students, and in this article, we’ll look at five reasons why that’s the case.

Multipurpose device

The iPad has the advantage of using it in many different ways. Thanks to the touchscreen, you can use your finger to control the tablet, but you can also use the Apple Pencil, or of course, you can connect a keyboard with a trackpad or mouse — it’s up to how it suits you.

This makes the iPad not just a tablet but a compact and portable computer that can do a lot, but not everything you can think of. Because iPadOS has limitations that will form your imaginary boundaries. However, it will be a reliable all-around companion.

Portability and design

Thanks to their simple design, Apple tablets are perfectly portable. Apple has managed to shrink them down to just a few millimeters, and they are also very light compared to MacBooks, for example. And this is precisely what makes them ideal for students, as they have to carry their devices with them at all times.

Yes, the MacBook is not heavy, but every few grams counts when carrying it, and they can quickly “wear off” over time. You can pick up the iPad and carry it in your hand or throw it in your bag, with virtually no weight. Plus, the design itself is gorgeous, so you won’t have to be ashamed.

Apple Pencil

If you get the newer iPad mini, iPad Air, or iPad Pro, you can also get the Apple Pencil to go with it. In case you are thinking about it, then definitely don’t hesitate over anything and order it right away. Currently, the second generation Apple Pencil is available, which is once again unrivaled in the world of these “digital pencils”.

You will get the best possible experience when using it with your iPad. That means you’ll get used to it quickly. The Apple Pencil can be used for writing, but its potential is helpful for graphic design students who can draw with it. Of course, spending more than three thousand crowns on a stylus is a significant investment, but it’s worth it.

iPadOS is very important

If I were to ask you about the best tablet you can get, of course, you would say the iPad. There’s nothing special about that, but in any case, it’s remarkable that Android advocates will say the same. If you’ve ever held an Android tablet in your hands, you’ll give me the benefit of the doubt that it simply can’t compare to the iPad and its iPadOS.

This is because this system offers countless perfect features that Android can only dream of, but the primary thing is that it is perfectly optimized and does not start to jam after a week. So the combination of iPad and iPadOS is perfect, and so far, no one has beaten it.

Optimized applications

Many users worry that they won’t be able to use the same apps on an iPad as they do on a Mac, for example. Yes, iPadOS apps are different from macOS apps in some ways, but they’re full-featured, and you’ll get used to them quickly. I mean that iPad apps are not just scaled-up iPhone apps. Quite the opposite.

So if you decide to use apps from Microsoft Office, iWork, for example, or if you want to use Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, trust that you’ll have just as much fun working in those apps as you do on a Mac if not better. It’s all about habit, of course. We’ll be bringing you a mini-series on our magazine soon, looking at working on the iPad from the perspective of a long-time Mac user, so you’ve got something to look forward to.

Conclusion

The Apple iPad is a great device that can be an excellent companion for students, but it is not suitable for all students. If you want to use the iPad for programming, you are more or less just out of luck. This use is possible, but at the moment, you will not download any IDE purely to the iPad and will compile everything yourself.

Some applications allow you to compile on remote servers and view the result, but you will be severely limited even in this area. If you are interested, you will undoubtedly find more : ). As for humanities students or future doctors, the iPad is a great companion for you. Even students of graphics or design will be happy with the iPad. It always depends on what specific use you plan for the iPad.

Unfortunately, even the price issue can be limiting for students, even though it is a device that will last with you for years. It would help if you still considered it a significant initial investment. After all, if you want to use the iPad to the fullest, it will need some stand case, at least an apple pencil, because I assume you will want to use the iPad to write/draw notes.

If you would like a keyboard, apple offers an official keyboard case for some models, but this is relatively expensive, so we are back to the money issue since having an iPad and equipping it appropriately for studying is a significant upfront investment. However, for the price you put into the iPad and its accessories, you get a great companion that will keep up with you for years.
