Handwriting with iPad Pro

The iPad Pro has many advantages over its desktop counterparts, not the least of which is pen support. Indeed, many traditional computer tasks are still done more easily on macOS, like building a spreadsheet or editing text. But it’s also true there is a whole separate array of tasks that a traditional computer has never really been able to help with, like handwriting, drawing, marking up PDF’s, things that were previously done with a pen and paper. The iPad Pro isn’t only good for tasks that require a writing utensil and writing surface, but that’s certainly one of its strengths.

One of the pro’s of using iPad Pro is the ability to handwrite notes. The benefits of handwriting are multitude, but the friction of always carrying a notebook and pen, the fragility of paper, and the fact that notebooks take up space and get lost, makes handwriting a difficult practice to practice consistently. Who still carries around a journal or uses a physical planner book? Kudos to those who do, but the number has shrunken considerably with the mobile technology in our pockets. Even in classes and seminars, everyone uses a keyboard and a screen. We’ve largely lost the creative act of handwriting.
