Panels is a new app from my favourite YouTube content creator, Marques Brownlee. It doesn’t reflect the quality you’d expect from MKBHD, and I’ll explain why.

Panels is in version 1.0 so it’s new. I’ve been using it for a few days, and this article reflects my thoughts on its design, pricing model, privacy practices, performance, and user experience.

I’m aware of the online controversy about the app’s poor design and the vast criticism it has received. While many complaints are valid, I think the tech community is harsh on this matter.

There is a lot of negative takes criticising the app, which makes me wonder:

Which tech company or even an indie developer has ever made an app where its version 1 is good?

I’m not saying we should underestimate an app because of its early release, but we must have a logical perspective on app development and try to understand why something works and doesn’t.
