iMessage for Android was held back— Apple
Apple is known for its products and services that provide a seamless experience to its users. According to Cell Phone Brand Loyalty Survey 2021 reveals the brand loyalty for Apple is at an all-time high of nearly 92%.
And, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s because of the experience they wouldn’t want to leave. Let’s see some graphics to back it up.
These questions were asked from iPhone users
Speaking of ecosystem, Epic debated that Apple volitionally attempts to sieze its users into the Apple ecosystem, iMessage being an successful example.
Epic backed up its reasoning by quoting the comments made by some Apple officials, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue, senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi, and Apple Fellow Phil Schiller.
“The #1 most difficult [reason] to leave the Apple universe app is iMessage … iMessage amounts to serious lock-in,” — Apple Employee
Schiller responded
“moving iMessage to Android will hurt us more than help us, this email illustrates why.”
“iMessage on Android would simply serve to remove [an] obstacle to iPhone families giving their kids Android phones,” — Craig Federighi
Cue admited that Apple could’ve build an Android version of iMessage that worked seamlessly with iOS but that version didn’t see the light of day.
Come to think of it, Apple has always kept its service to its users but what if they had taken it into account and build an Android version. It might’ve led to iMessage monopoly and WhatsApp not being that popular. What do you guys think?
From the looks of it, FaceTime also falls into this, according to Epic’s filing.
