Everyone who uses a computer (pretty much everyone, actually), at some point in time, have felt the urge to own and use a Mac, at least once. Apple has been one of the most key players in the world of computers since the time when the word COMPUTER was also not familiar with many tongues. So, yeah; Apple is that sweet old guy down the ally who knows everything and will generously build a PC for you which will cost more, but run for ages. I think that’s an apt description (let me know what you think about it in the comments section)!

Coming back to point, Apple started selling Mac and MacBook in India after 2010. Before that, Indians had to import their devices from USA or Dubai (many many people prefer this as the prices in India are almost twice that of the USA! A $499 iPhone in USA costs INR 52,000 which is more than $600!). In the beginning, Apple sold only single configuration models. Then after a few years, around 2015–16, Apple introduced multiconfiguration on MacBook. Till today, MacBook Air is the most popular purchase of Apple laptops in India.

Now, this has changed. Apple has decided to change its approach to consumers in India. Now, instead of offering what they think is appropriate for Indians, they have left the decision to consumers itself. The Indian market can now purchase custom configurated Mac and MacBook starting late 2020! This is a real good move for people who want to have a high RAM, mid-range CPU and lots of storage. This option was not available earlier other than USA, UK and a few other East Asian markets. The entry of India into these ‘upper’ tier countries simply means Apple wants to expand its wings in this market at a serious level.

With the beginning of production of Apple accessories, iPhone 6S, 7, 8 and Xr, Apple will now start manufacturing MacBook spare parts in India, too. This will help to reduce the repair costs to a large extend.

Earlier this year, Apple announced to have some plans to shift 20% of its production from China to India and is going to invest $40 Billion in this mammoth of a nation. After this good news, making custom-configured Macs available will be real welcome news for thousands of Apple lovers in India. Apple sure is taking the Indian market seriously!

Cheers!
