iPhone 6s Revisited
How does the 6s stack up against 2020 iPhones?
The iPhone 6s is one of the most successful iPhones sold by apple and is still being supported by apple to this day, a whopping 5 years after the release in 2015.
So, how does the iPhone go against 2020 phones?
Well, the iPhone 6s battery and camera are probably the biggest downside to this 5 year old device. The puny 1,715 mAh battery size compared to modern iPhones with 2500–3500+ mAh shows the improvements in battery size by Apple. Because it is a 5 year old device, without a battery replacement, it is very likely for the battery to have been degraded and therefore a lower max capacity. Because of the small and inefficient battery, it would be unable to survive a full day of regular use. However, with a handy-dandy portable charger, it will be no problem
The camera of the iPhone 6s includes a 12 megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5 megapixel front-facing camera. Without image stabilization, it is very hard to take steady pictures. The iPhone 6s also does not come with optical zoom, meaning that the range of your pictures will be limited.
Now that the negatives are out of the way, let's look at the positives.
The headphone jack. The iPhone 6s was the lastest iPhone still having a headphone jack. The iPhone 7 removed the headphone jack, meaning that you would have to buy a dongle to charge your phone and listen to music at the same time, or you would need to buy wireless headphones. Many people prefer the convenience of plug and listen, however, without the AirPods and its seamless connection, playing music takes just that much more time.
Yes, its a 5 year old phone, but the powerful A9 chip within the iPhone 6s still makes the phone surprisingly speedy and snappy. If you are using this without much heavy multi-tasking and mostly media consumption, the 6s will still meet your demands. Because the phone is still supported to this date by Apple, and future updates such as IOS 14, it still has the mainstream features that everybody likes, such as dark mode.
The size. Although the screen in proportion to the total size of the phone isn't great, small phone lovers will love the size of the iPhone 6s. The iPhone 6s is very thin compared to the modern iPhones due to the lack of the glass back, and is also relatively light.
Is the iPhone 6s worth buying in 2020?
You can buy a refurbished iPhone 6s for as low as 95$ on websites like eBay and 150$ on websites like Amazon. If you want to get into the apple ecosystem but you are on a budget, the iPhone 6s is a great option as it is still reliable and very usable. Using the iPhone 6s as a secondary device will also be a great investment as it has proven the longevity of it. Overall, the iPhone 6s is a great budget device that if you are looking forward to buy, will not disappoint.
