iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2 updates gradually introduced Apple Intelligence, bringing a new level of smart experiences to iPhone, iPad, and Mac users. However, behind these impressive AI features lies a significant issue: the burgeoning demand for storage space.

When Apple Intelligence first debuted in iOS 18.1, Apple announced a set of usage requirements, including at least 4GB available. However, with the release of iOS 18.2 and more AI features, this storage requirement quickly increased.

To run Apple Intelligence, Apple’s new guidelines require 7GB of space across iPhones, iPads, and Macs. There is no current way for users to disable features to reduce storage.

Why the High Storage Demand?

The high storage demand is primarily because many Apple Intelligence features rely on local processing. The AI models are necessary for these functions must be downloaded and stored on the device.
