Looking ahead to Apple Season!

New Apple Event this September 15th

Apple have announced their next special event and here’s what we might possibly see!

iPhone 12 and 12 Plus

So you’ve probably heard by now that the iPhone 12 is getting a new design after 6 long years of the rounded curved frame, it’s rumoured to look similar to the current iPad Pro and the classic iPhone 5 with flat edges. Now aside from the new design, the iPhone 12 models are also going to come in 2 sizes, 5.4" and 6.1" displays and both OLED.

This is a major change because the lower priced iPhones always have LCD displays (iPhone XR and 11) and lower resolution and normally just one model but the new 5.4" variant is going to be fantastic for those who want a smaller phone, it’s also believed they’ll come with faster plugged and wireless charging, 5G and improved dual camera lens for Wide and Ultra Wide.

The 12 and 12 Plus are going to come in 6 colours but it’s unknown what ones from last year are sticking around from the iPhone 11.

These models are due to be released in mid October at $699/£719 and 128GB base storage.

iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max

So aside from the new design which I mentioned above on the standard iPhone 12 models, the iPhone 12 Pro is rumoured to bring with it 2 models with 6.1" and 6.7" OLED displays and a possible 120hz refresh rate, faster plugged and wireless charging, LiDAR sensor(found on the current iPad Pro) for AR and photos and of course 5G.

The Pro models will also have improved Wide, Ultra Wide and Telephoto lens with a possible 4K at 120fps video recording and I’m also hoping for more improvement on the fantastic night mode from last year.

Some leaks have suggested some magnets appear under the back of the pro models for accessories or an Apple branded wireless charger, which is also possible as it’s also rumoured to appear as a smaller version of the infamous Air Power wireless charger.

The 12 Pro and 12 pro Max should arrive in 4 colours, Space Grey (hoping for a darker version this year), Silver, Gold and a new Navy Blue which replaces the Midnight Green from last years iPhone 11 Pro.

The notch might also appear smaller due to larger screen sizes this time round and slimmer bezels, the Pro models are due to be released at the end of October or early November for $999/£1049 and 128GB base storage.

Apple Watch Series 6

Along with the new iPhones, we’re also expecting the Apple Watch Series 6, which is expected to look very similar to the Apple Watch Series 5 with maybe slimmer bezels but not very noticeable. It’s very likely to have new health tracking capabilities, as blood oxygen level detection has been rumoured but blood pressure monitoring is likely coming next year.

Theres also a strong rumour of a navy stainless steel model coming this year to match the new navy iPhone 12 Pro models.

Expect these to go on sale by the end of September.

iPad Air 4 and iPad 8

Apple will also release new iPads, and we could perhaps see the unveiling of the rumoured 11-inch iPad Air that’s supposed to feature an all-screen Liquid Retina display with Touch ID either built into the power button or most likely Face ID.

The new iPad Air should also have Apple Pencil 2 support but no 120hz display, 6GB RAM or dual camera lens with the LiDAR sensor found on the current iPad Pro models.

Instead, I expect 4GB RAM, 60hz display with a single camera lens on the back and a USB-C connector for fast charging and attaching external hard drives.

There may also be a new low-cost iPad in the works with improved bezels but most likely still with a home button and touch ID.

These will also be released by the end of September.

Now this is a wild card product thats been rumoured for a year now, they’re a Tile-like Bluetooth tracking device that’s designed to be attached to items like keys, bags and wallets for tracking purposes, letting you find them right in the Apple “Find My” app.

AirTags will have the built-in U1 ultra-wideband chip that will allow them to connect to an iPhone, relaying the position of items that they’re attached to.

You will be able to use your ‌iPhone‌, iPad, and Mac to track the location of AirTags much like you do to find missing Apple devices.

The “‌Find My”‌ app includes an AR feature that lets you use augmented reality to track down an item that’s nearby, with Apple using balloons to let you know visually where an item might be.

I don’t expect these to be hugely expensive but maybe even sold in multi packs of 2 or 3 for maybe $50/£50, I’d probably grab some for my keys and bags for a bit of fun but I don’t expect mass adoption by the public.

AirPods Studio

The other wild card, AirPods Studio will join the AirPods lineup with the AirPods 2 and the AirPods Pro, and the new headphones will feature an over-ear design.

Current rumours indicate the AirPods Studio will feature Active Noise Cancelling found on the AirPods Pro, equaliser settings controlled through an iOS or Mac device, and head and neck detection, similar to the ear detection in the AirPods.

They may feature magnetic ear cups and headband padding that’s able to be swapped out for a customisable look, similar to Apple Watch bands.

This feature will no doubt be the next big accessory money maker for Apple after the Watch bands, It also gives buyers the ability to own something unique and stand out a little unlike current AirPods.

And Finally, I’ll be watching and hoping all these products get announced and showcased but at the end of the day these are all still rumours, so don’t take anything as 100% guaranteed until you see it on the Apple live stream. We might possibly have to wait another month for more from Apple if not but regardless, the future is looking exciting.

It’s been a long hard year for everyone and some new tech is a fun and exciting breath of fresh air for many of us and I can’t wait.

You can watch the event live here on September 15th 2020, Enjoy.
