The Apple event was great, and we have received leaks and rumours from various sources suggesting a few important changes in the upcoming M2 MacBook Air Design, even-though it has only been a few days since the launch of the overpowered MacBook Pro.

Above is a render for the MacBook air that is rumoured to be launched in mid-2022.

Last year in 2020, we ‘apple fans’ couldn’t really differentiate between the MacBook Air and Pro due to the lack of major design and performance benchmarks between the two. The upcoming MacBook Air will sport the M2 chip, that will create a clear contrast between the Consumer and Pro lineup. A Leak claims the new Apple MacBook Air could feature a mini LED display and MagSafe but also a higher price than the current version.

The M2 chip VS the M1 Pro and Max.

Design

We are getting leaks about pastel like colours, that were seen on the iMac, coming to the MacBook Air.

“I just wish the colours would be a little darker so that it doesn’t blend in with the green iMac that site on my table.”

Furthermore, the M2 MacBook Air may not have a wedge design as is seen in the current models. They might be flat like the MacBook Pros, but having a slimmer and a modern look. All that with probably the same or slightly bigger screen size due to an addition of a Notch!

Yes A Notch!

A notch that is white in colour. I know many apple fans will hate this(including myself), but this is what the world has come to. They are trying to follow the footsteps of the 24-inch iMac.

“But hey, we got used to it”

You must be thinking:

“Having a white notch would not blend in with apps properly.”

Apple would perhaps market this product for users who use Light Mode. As we saw them specially say ‘Pro users love Dark mode’ in the Unleashed Apple event. So this product is meant for ‘Consumers who probably love Light Mode.

But that’s debatable. And its a big But.

“Ew! That looks Horrible” — Common Public

Well Apple must be thinking —

“We already have white bezels, why not a white Notch?”

Lastly, the MacBook Air will have an aesthetically pleasing look, as Apple may implement a white coloured keyboard just like in the iMac. They will have an oleophobic coating, so they should not get dirty over time.

Moving on, we may witness the name being change simply to the MacBook. As it was known earlier.

Ports

We have seen the addition of ports in the new MacBook Pro, and it would be no surprise if they add MagSafe charging instead of USB-C.

Apple might decide to put 1 thunderbolt port on each side of the MacBook for easier access to charging ports, as seen in the picture above☝🏼. The headphone jack will still remain, but can be modified to High Impedance that has a built-in DAC.

Chipset

The M2 chip will be a modified M1 chip that will mainly focus on efficieny. This would be done to stretch the battery life even longer than the current MacBook Air that are already top Notch(I had to use the pun).

I can already imagine Apple anouncing it in my mind:

“With a 22 hour Battery Life” — Apple

Different chips for the Consumer and Professionals due to the variance of workflows.

Display

Apple modifications are leveling up each year, as they showed us in they Keynote. They managed to put a ProMotion 120Hz display with Mini-LED in the thin MacBook Pro cover, which was earlier thought impossible.

They have reduced the thickness of the displays starting from the Pro XDR display to the 12.9-inch iPad and finally to the special MacBook Pro.

So this Notebook should atleast have Mini-LED with 1000 nits peak brightness and HDR capability.

We Apple fans can have dreams, can’t we?

Face ID?

We may or may not get to see Face ID in the MacBook Airs.

We will get an upgrade in the camera system from 720p to a better resolution 1080p camera with Center Stage.

Center Stage was first seen in the iPad Pro, but still seems unlikely as the Pro lineup has still not received this gimmick.

Speakers

As always, the MacBooks have got one of the best speakers in the notebook world, and it would be no surprise if they bring Spatial audio as a new feature to the Macs.

Apple music for over a year has been providing us with Dolby Atmos, the MacBook Air might be what they had in mind when they started providing us.

So high hopes for this Machine, but Apple:

“Get Rid of the White Notch and bezels!”
