The first-ever online developer conference kicked off from Apple Park with big announcements, exciting reveals, inspiration, and new opportunities to create the most innovative apps in the world.

Today in this blog we gonna see about what does iOS 14 brings to us.

iOS 14 — WWDC 2020

Tim Cook takes a moment to talk about Black Lives Matter and coronavirus

Tim Cook Apple’s CEO started the conference with deep condolence to George Floyd 43 years old black men killed in Minnesota, US and he also quoted about Apple racial equity and justice an initiative by Apple worth $100 million to promote racial equality for people of color. And he also talked about the company’s new developer entrepreneur camp for black developers.

He thanked the health care workers around the world for their efforts in helping battle the coronavirus, which has killed hundreds of thousands of people around the world.

App Library

App Library

Over time, when you get tones of apps installed in your iPhone you’ll be losing track on day to day used applications. Here comes App Library a home screen optimizer that helps to keep the home screen clean, sleek, and improve usability.

App Library will have all your apps grouped together in more intelligent ways like Suggestions, Recently Used, Arcade, Health, and more. Have provided a search option at the top of the library where you will get all apps organized from A to Z.

App Library also provides an option to hide unwanted pages from the home screen. In Edit mode, Click page count dots at bottom of the screen -> uncheck pages you want to hide.

Widgets

Widget

Widget gets a lot of updates this year 😮, now you get more beautiful data-rich and differently sized widgets.

Tap hold on any widget from today screen drag it to home screen place it anywhere you wanted. It’s really cool as it looks and helps to make use of widgets to its fullest.

New widgets can be directly added to the home screen from the widget gallery by using the plus button on the top left of the home screen in edit mode. The gallery is the best place to explore widgets, on tapping on a widget will provide the option to select a widget from different available sizes

Another interesting thing is Widget stack, Where you can add a stack of widgets to the home screen and pick just the one wanted for the moment. The smart stack will do this for you by automatically switching widgets over the day.

“Like morning will show news and throughout the day show meeting coming up and in the evening get a summary of work activity.”

Picture in Picture

Picture in picture

Picture in picture is the same functionality that macOS has happy to see it on iOS. Videos will be kept on playing on the home screen whatever operation you do and can be dragged to any part of the screen. Can do pinch in out to zoom in and out.

What cool in P-I-P is when you swipe it to the side it gets hidden and audio keeps playing in the background.

Siri

iOS 14 Siri interface

No old school style, now Siri won’t occupy the entire screen it just pops up at the bottom of the screen. Any information Siri provides will be shown at the top just like the notifications.

Siri is getting smarter, now Siri provides 20x more facts than the Siri 3 years ago.

Now Siri can also send voice notes to your contact.

Translate

Translate App

A new app to translate conversations, the interesting thing is it can work offline, Yeah that sounds great and more secure. You can use any combination of these 11 languages including English, Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Portuguese, Russian

Message

iMessage

Apple had concentrate a lot on the Message app,

  • Now provided an option to pin one or more conversations to the top of the screen to avoid getting missed in the list.
  • Now groups have the option to reply to a message and see all inline replies to message as a separate thread. That helps to keep track on a discussion in a group.
  • Introducing mentions to indicate whom the message is meant for in a group.
  • At the top of the group conversation, we can find group members pictures combined as one profile and interesting this is the most recently active people are shown in larger size less active as a smaller one.
  • iOS 14 has added even more ways to create your Memoji look with over 20 new hair and headwear styles to reflect your hobby, profession, and personality.
  • Has added more relevant Memoji to the current situation is face cover/mask 🙏
  • Apple adds more age options too, and 3 brand new Memoji Stickers Hug, Fist Bump, and Blush

Maps

Apple map iOS 14 — Dedicated Cycling Route

iOS 14 brings a dedicated cycling option to map, which helps users ride along bike lanes, track elevation, stairs on the ways using can plan the best route.

Added EV routing for electric car users, track your current charge, and check elevation and weather to automatically add charging stops along your route.

Car Play

iOS 14 bright new update to CarPlay like a new wallpaper option that suits perfectly for your car.

Added support for new categories of CarPlay apps like EV charging, Parking, and Quick food ordering

Car Keys

iOS 14 Apple Car Key

Apple introduces a digital version of car keys 🔑. To unlock and start a car using your iPhone.

  • Car keys can be shared much easily using iMessages. Can set a driving profile for each shared key perfect for teen drivers.
  • The first car to support this feature is the 2021 BMW 5 series.
  • It’s more secured than a physical car key. Digital keys can be turned off any time through iCloud.
  • Apple announces iOS 13 will also support the Apple CarKey feature to support BMW releasing next month.
  • Keys can be shared with others using iMessage. Can set separate driver profiles for shared keys.

App Clips

App Clips

AppClips is all about getting to a part of an app at the moment you need it. And it’s light, fast and easy to discover.

  • App clips can be easily discovered from Web, Message, Maps, NFC tags, QR codes
  • Apple-designed a new App Clip code, Can scan them with the camera to get the clip of an app.
  • Developers can create App Clip from part of an app using Xcode. To launch quickly App Clip should be less than 10MB in size.
  • Integrated Apple Pay for easy payment, Sign in with Apple for quick and privacy-friendly login.

Redefined Call Screen

And here is the most awaited feature on an iPhone. Apple has refined the incoming call screen. From iOS 14 users can receive a call without getting disturbed like a normal notification styled call UI. This really saves most gameplay moments.
