Samsung’s New Designs Make Apple Look Positively Daring

Think things are really any better on the other side? — Every September Apple get some serious flak from the wider commentariat for not moving the bar enough with phone design. Whilst there are only so many ways you can make a glass and metal sandwich look interesting, much of this comes from an ennui with the wider market. Other manufacturers stay close to the iPhone because it’s the model that would be most people’s default mental image of a smartphone. They want Apple to shift things up a gear in the hope that their actual favourite manufacturer will follow suit and there is no other company more popular than Samsung.

The South Korean giant has an incredibly diverse product portfolio, making everything from Televisions to Tanks yet is perhaps best known for its smartphones. Samsung have a huge influence on the Android marketplace to the point that Google have to ally themselves with them to push through shifts in device policy. It was Samsung’s first experimentations with foldable devices that led to other companies, including Google themselves following suit. You’d think that the market leader in the non-iOS market would also be at the forefront of design yet nothing could be further from the truth. You only have to look at how generic their S25 series looks to see the proof.
