Apple’s New App Store Terms Are A Head Scratcher

Yesterday I got an email from Apple notifying me of some new App Store policy changes.

Apple occasionally sends these out and I don’t really care that much about these emails. You can follow the rules perfectly and Apple still finds a way to reject you.

But this time I saw some publications reporting on these new rules. Specifically there’s something about emulators. Hmm… interesting, let’s look into it. And, boy, are these new rules interesting. Maybe I should be reading all of Apple’s App Store rule changes.

So there are two sections that changed: 3.1.1(a) and 4.7. First 4.7. This is what 4.7 said before the change:

4.7 Mini apps, mini games, streaming games, chatbots, and plug-ins
Apps may offer certain software that is not embedded in the binary, specifically mini apps, mini games, streaming games, chatbots, and plug-ins. You are responsible for all such software offered in your app, including ensuring that such software complies with these Guidelines and all applicable laws.
