Quite recently Apple introduced a new piece of device that was long missing for Apple users. As the title mentions that is the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack. This is one unique and quite helpful item that can save your day even in the most extreme situations. This Apple MagSafe Battery Pack is very similar to a portable power bank but there are quite noticeable differences among the two items. So first, let us see what this MagSafe Battery Pack is.

This Battery Pack is basically a normal wireless charger but with a battery. You can use this as a wireless charger and a portable power bank at the same time. This Apple MagSafe Battery Pack will work perfectly with every iPhone 12 series smartphone because only iPhone 12 series has the required magnetic parts to attach the battery pack. Even though it is especially designed for iPhone 12 series, it will work fine with any Qi wireless charging device including older iPhone models and AirPods. The main purpose of this Apple device to extend your battery life by charging it wirelessly in an emergency like situations (not exactly emergencies but in). All you have to do is stick this in the back of your phone and let it charge. This will charge your phone with a 5W power when not connected to a power adapter but when connected this will go high as 15W of power. The charging power is limited to 5W because of possible overheating concerns.

This also supports a reverse charging method. Which means that if you are charging your phone with the Battery Pack on the back, the Pack will be charged too. In this process, iPhone will be charged enough before it starts charging the Battery Pack. The current battery level can be easily viewed in the iPhone’s batteries widget. Please keep in mind that this cannot charge your iPhones from 0–100 (can barely charge iPhone 12 Mini fully). Apple has not disclosed any info about the battery capacity.

I think you may now have your doubts about this. What is the difference between this and a power bank? Does this actually worth its cost? Actually, those are completely up for you to decide. These arguments can be taken in many points of view. They totally depend on people’s personal preferences. Overall, a Power Bank can charge an iPhone several times, but it requires a wired connection. In the other hand this does not need a wire but cannot fully charge an iPhone. Apple has also advised it is users about some overheating situations. Those are not exactly overheating as you would expect but if the phone will get considerably warm it is better to move it to a cooler place and to use recommended Apple devices.

Alternatives for MagSafe Battery Pack

Thought this is the first time Apple did this, there are various types of alternatives in the market even before this that can replace this Battery Pack.

  • 10000mAh Magnetic Wireless Charger

Even bigger than the previous item, this here is a Magnetic Charger with a massive battery power and also a charging power. This supports 5W/7.5W/10W and 15W charging and even 20W charging when it is connected to a charging adapter. Otherwise, this is very similar to other Magnetic Battery Packs and this also needs a USB Type-C cable to be charged. This is available in both Blue and Grey color. This is a great choice if you are looking for more battery power.

  • Mag-Safe Wireless Portable Charger 15W

Do not get deceived by the name, it is only there to imply that this works with MagSafe cases and devices. Nevertheless, this is a quite good Battery Pack. Powered with a 5000mAh battery and 15W charging capability. It will charge iPhones at the 5W charging power which is as same as the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack. This may tend to get bit warm when charging with a wall adapter but that is just ok. Available in the market in Blue, Green and Luxury Grey colors.
