The new 2020 MacBook Air is a pretty major upgrade.

It brings with it double the base storage capacity and double the maximum storage capacity. (Now 256GB and 2TB, respectively.) So without upgrading anything, you can store more stuff on your Mac.

It starts at $999, like the MacBook Airs of old.

And it can pack up to a 1.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor. That’s pretty powerful for just a MacBook Air.

This new 2020 model also has the new Magic Keyboard found in the 16-inch MacBook Pro, that replaces easily-damaged Butterfly keys with a revised scissor-switch mechanism. (It also brings with it the old arrow-key “upside-down T” layout)

With the new power and storage upgrades, the MacBook Air is a viable alternative to the MacBook Pro. For most people, this MacBook Air does everything they need a computer to do.

Let’s not forget about the 14-inch Magic Keyboard MacBook Pro that’s presumably just around the corner. It will probably be more powerful and capable than the current 13-inch MacBook Pro, and it looks like this MacBook Air is stepping up to fill the place of the current 13-inch MacBook Pro.

The MacBook Air has become the perfect entry-level Mac. For just $999, you get:

  • A portable, do everything computer.
  • A brilliant Retina Display with 4 million pixels and True Tone technology.
  • The Apple T2 security chip.
  • The awesome new Magic Keyboard.
  • 8GB of RAM
  • A dual-core Intel Core i3 processor (which can be upgraded to a quad-core Intel Core i5 for just $100)
  • 256GB of storage.

But you can upgrade it all the way up to:

  • 16GB of RAM
  • A 1.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor.
  • 2TB of storage.

This new MacBook Air is the perfect balance of power, price, and portability that the MacBook Air is meant to be. It starts with a surprisingly powerful base model, and it goes all the way up to a powerhouse high-end model. It’s the realization of the MacBook Air idea.
