The next iPhone won’t need a charger
Because it won’t have a charging port
People around the globe were glued to their screens to watch the newest Apple event on October 13, 2020, where Cupertino based Apple announced the iPhone 12 to the world. Many people had an idea of what was expected, the team at MacRumors have been working overtime on very correct hints and leaks, so we did expect the 5G compatibility, a mini phone, the squarer edges and no charger in the box.
But why am I stating that the next iPhone will not have a charging port? By Apple removing the adapter in the iPhone 12 paves way for them to remove the charging port entirely in the future. They are big enough to take the leap so that the competition follows. Heck, they’ve done it before, to the headphone jack.
The removal of the headphone jack
On September 7th, 2016, Apple announced to the world they were going to remove the beloved 3.5mm headphone jack from their iPhone line. The world was outraged! An entire subculture of headphones has developed since the inception of the jack in the 1870s. Headphones connected everyone, whether you are rich or poor you owned one. From everyday brands such as TDK to expressive SkullCandy to high-end Bang & Olufsen to the audio specialist brands such as Focal.
In one swift move, Apple shocked the entire industry. They removed the 3.5mm jack and instead gave an adapter in the box that could connect your headphones to the lightning port. This meant that the days of you charging your phone and listening to music was over. You also couldn’t plug your iPhone in at a house party to woo the crowd with your dope playlists. They did give you an adapter because the world hadn't caught up, and many people had spent a good amount of money on wired headphones including those released by Apple subsidiary, Beats.
Despite all the backlash of the removal of the headphone jack and the reports that wireless technology didn’t provide good quality audio, the entire world followed suit. Google released its flagship phone named Pixel in October 2016 and made the claim that their phone, has a 3.5mm headphone jack.
