Updates for Apple Fitness+, Including New Trainer
Today Apple announced, in a press release, some updates coming to Apple Fitness+, including a new trainer.
One of the unique reasons people signed up to Fitness+ was because of how inclusive it was. Anyone, with any ability could join in. Apple now builds on this with workouts designed specifically for pregnancy and older adults, as well as several new Yoga, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), and Strength workouts for beginners.
Focussing on helping women stay active and have a healthy pregnancy, the new Workouts for Pregnancy section will include 10 workouts across Strength, Core, and Mindful Cooldown. They will be led by Fitness+ trainer and mom-to-be Betina Gozo. They are joined by new moms Emily Fayette and Anja Garcia. All ten workouts will be a quick 10 minute workout designed to accommodate any stage of pregnancy and any fitness level. They will include tips for modifying workouts using a pillow.
The Workouts for Older Adults section will be focussed on helping users stay active at any age with a focus on strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and mobility. The eight workouts in this category will also all be ten minutes long and they will be led by Molly Fox. Molly is joined by Gregg Cook for Strength, Dustin Brown for Yoga, Bakari Williams for HIIT, and Jhon Gonzalez for Dance. Some workouts may use a light dumbbell and most will simply use your own bodyweight. Some show modifications with a chair or against the wall.
The already existing beginners section will be expanding with more workouts. New Yoga, Strength, and HIIT workouts will be available in Workouts for Beginners.
The next major upgrade to the service is the addition of new trainers joining the teams for Yoga and HIIT workouts, two of the most popular workout types for the service. Jonelle Lewis is the newest addition to the Fitness+ trainer team. She joins Molly Fox, Dustin Brown, and Jessica Skye for Yoga and Mindful Cooldown workouts. Apple has said “Jonelle has been practicing Yoga for over 15 years and has been a teacher, mentor, and educator for other yoga teachers for the past seven years. Her energetic teaching style and simple-to-follow flows will appeal to both beginners and seasoned yoga enthusiasts. With her love of hip-hop and R&B beats, she creates a playful and fun vibe, giving people space to be themselves and explore.” You can watch Jonelle’s first workout on the Fitness+ service on April 19.
Anja usually leads weekly rowing classes on Fitness+ and will be featuring in the pregnancy section, as well as this she is now joining the HIIT team along with Bakari Williams, Jamie-Ray Hartshorne, and Kim Ngo. Apple says “ Anja has an inspiring ability to coach with authority, vitality, and compassion. She brings more than 15 years of experience teaching workouts in gyms and online, in addition to being a busy mom and pediatric nurse in an intensive care unit.”
Starting on April 19, and in honour of Earth Day, Apple will be releasing a new episode of Time to Walk will premiere with Actor, producer, author, and activist Jane Fonda. In the episode she advocates for action to fight climate change.
