Life is full of lone, individual experiences we love

There’s nothing wrong with doing things by yourself (image: Apple)

Impressions of Apple’s Vision Pro AR/VR headset have been floating around for weeks, and now the reviews are rolling in as customers in the first wave of pre-orders are receiving the most intriguing, eagerly anticipated new Apple product since the iPhone.

But in some of the reviews, I’ve noticed a pretty curious observation/criticism: that the Vision Pro is “isolating” and “lonely” because others can’t see what the wearer of the Vision Pro can see. In particular, Nilay Patel of the Verge mentions this loneliness three times in his review, including in his conclusion where he states “The biggest tradeoff of all is that using the Vision Pro is such a lonely experience…You’re in there having experiences all by yourself that no one else can take part in.” And in a post from June from the Verge’s Allison Johnson, she points out, “The Vision Pro is a $3,500 screen for one person: you and you only…It puts you at the center of your own little screen-filled world.” To which I would say:

“NO FUCKING SHIT, SHERLOCK”

I’d also note that being alone is very different from being lonely. More on that later.

Alone Again (Naturally)
