Apple has released the official invitation to its traditional WWDC developer conference, which takes place annually in June. This year, Apple will kick off the conference with an online event that will unveil several very interesting new products.

Of course, it is no surprise for Apple fans that we will see the first unveiling of the expected operating systems. But it doesn’t have to end there. After all, Apple may very well be holding several aces up its sleeve, and it’s just a question of what it will show up with.

As is customary with Apple, we were informed about the conference via an official invitation. But don’t be fooled. It doesn’t have to inform only about the event date, quite the opposite. As shown several times in the company’s history, the invitation often contains information about what we can look forward to.

For example, in November 2020, when the first Macs with Apple Silicon chipsets were unveiled, Apple published an interactive invitation with its logo that opened just like the lid of a laptop. This already made it clear what to expect. And that’s exactly what it has published now.

The date of the iOS 17 unveiling is no longer a secret. Apple has now officially announced the date for this year’s developer conference, WWDC 2023, which will take place from June 5 to 9, 2023.

What can we expect?

The conference will see the first unveiling of new operating systems, including the anticipated iOS 17. It follows that the unveiling of new systems and other innovations will happen on Monday, June 5, 2023, during the conference, which Apple will broadcast online at 19:00 our time.

The event will then continue through the end of that week, offering a host of workshops and another developer programming. However, the Cupertino company should have a few extra aces this year. As per tradition, the unveiling of new iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, macOS 14 and tvOS 17.

But there’s also talk in Apple circles about unveiling a long-awaited AR/VR headset that could attract much attention. It doesn’t have to stop there, moreover. There are two other rather important products in play.

There has been talking for just as long about introducing a Mac Pro with Apple’s Silicon chipset, or we could see a 15″ MacBook Air. So it’s clear that we have something to look forward to. We’ll keep you posted on further information.

What has Apple unveiled at WWDC in history, and what can we expect this year?

WWDC, the Worldwide Developers Conference, is all about software, which the event's name implies because it’s aimed at developers. But that doesn’t mean we won’t see some hardware as well. It’s not a rule, but we can expect exciting news at this event.

Of course, it will be all about iOS, macOS, watchOS, iPadOS, and tvOS, and maybe we’ll even see the long-speculated homeOS. Apple will introduce us to new features in its operating systems used by iPhones, Mac computers, Apple Watch smartwatches, iPad tablets, or the Apple TV Smartbox.

However, indeed, the latter is minimally discussed. If Apple shows us its headset for AR/VR, we’re sure to hear about the so-called realityOS on which this product will run.

Last year, Apple was surprised a lot at WWDC because, after many years at this event, it just showed some of that hardware again. Specifically, it was the 13" MacBook Pro and the redesigned MacBook Air with the M2 chip. But how were the previous years with other products?

WWDC 2023, in the spirit of AR/VR

Although Apple doesn’t disclose any details about new products in advance and waits until the last minute — until the keynote itself — to reveal them, we still have a few clues that suggest possible conclusions. After all, as we mentioned above, the Cupertino company often reveals what Apple fans can look forward to.

It includes references to new products in its invitations. Of course, this is different from the Macs above with Apple Silicon. We’ve seen several such concerns over the past ten years, with Apple hinting slightly at the arrival of the colourful iPhone 5C, Siri, Portrait Mode on the iPhone 7, and many more. But let’s take a look at this year’s invite already.

You can see the specific graphic just above this paragraph. At first glance, these are waves of colour (rainbow) that don’t reveal much. That is, until the official Twitter account of Halide. This company specializes in developing professional photo apps for iPhones and iPads, whose capabilities noticeably exceed those of the native Camera.

It was at this point that a quite crucial revelation came. The tweet reveals that the colour waves from the WWDC 2023 invite bear a striking resemblance to a phenomenon known as a “pancake lens array,” which is often used in none other than virtual reality goggles.

On the other hand, other sources point out that the shape of the waves could also be remade into a circular Apple Park, allowing the Cupertino company to allude to none other than its headquarters itself.

But considering the long-running leaks and speculation that Apple’s anticipated AR/VR headset is the number one priority, something like this would make sense. We also can’t forget that Apple uses similar references in its invitations.

What will Apple present at WWDC 2023?

As we mentioned right at the beginning, on the occasion of the WWDC 2023 developer conference, we can expect the introduction of several products. So let’s quickly look at what Apple has in store for us.

New operating systems

The alpha and omega of the keynote, on the occasion of the opening of the WWDC 2023 developer conference, are the new versions of Apple’s operating systems. The company unveils these every year in June at this event.

It’s, therefore, more than clear that Apple fans can look forward to the first revelation of the form, news and changes planned for iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, macOS 14 and tvOS 17.

Initial speculation was that iOS 17, the most anticipated operating system, wouldn’t offer much joy. However, the leaks have now taken a decisive turn. On the contrary, we have to look forward to groundbreaking features that users have been calling for for a long time.

Mac Pro (Apple Silicon)

When Apple announced its ambitions of transitioning Macs to its own Apple Silicon chipsets in 2020, it mentioned that it would complete the entire process within two years. So that means that by the end of 2022, there shouldn’t have been any Apple PC powered by an Intel processor in the lineup.

However, the company missed that deadline and is still awaiting arguably the most important machine. We’re talking, of course, about the professional Mac Pro, the most powerful computer ever on offer.

This piece was supposed to be introduced long ago, but Apple encountered several problems during its development that complicated its arrival. According to respected sources, they rather shouldn’t have expected it (yet).

Mac Studio (Second generation)

Since the updated Mac mini was introduced earlier this year, one would expect a new version of Mac Studio to be presented to us during this conference, as currently, at least the basic version of Mac Studio doesn’t make as much sense, not that it did before.

15″ MacBook Air

There has also been talking in the Apple community for quite some time about the arrival of the 15″ MacBook Air, with which Apple is expected to target mainstream users, who, in turn, need/want a larger screen.

The truth is that the current offering isn’t exactly the most user-friendly for these users. If you are a person who is happy with the basic model, but the extremely important attribute for him is the diagonal of the display, then he has virtually no reasonable choice.

AR/VR headset

One of the most anticipated Apple products of recent times is the AR/VR headset, which is the number one priority in Apple’s eyes. At least, that’s what the leaks and speculations say about it.

This product is also important for Apple because it could build its legacy on current CEO Tim Cook, who could thus come out of Steve Jobs’ shadow. In addition, the invitation speaks in favour of introducing the expected headset, as we have already discussed above.
