Why Apple’s next operating system release is crucial for the iPhone
There’s nothing better than that ‘new phone feeling’. Unboxing your newest device, admiring the perfect paint job, peeling the screen protector off and diving into the latest and greatest gadget on the market.
However, as time goes on, the novelty starts to wear off. You become used to the new features, the colour, the design; and suddenly you rely on the software on board the device to keep things fresh. This is why an operating system’s design is so important.
iOS 14 was a great update for Apple in 2020, as it was the first step in allowing users to customise their home screens — at the time, via the use of the reworked widgets. You were also able to remove cluttered app pages, stack widgets, re-design all of your app icons and have them categorised in the newly-added app drawer. It was a great step in the right direction; a step that I didn’t expect Apple to take.
Fast-forward to June 2022 and iOS 16 gets announced at Apple’s annual WWDC event, where we are greeted with the latest customisation options — this time, to the lock screen. While iOS 15 was certainly a ‘quality of life’ update, iOS 16 continues down the path that Apple created two years ago, allowing iPhone users to…
