Why is Apple’s MacPro offer not an expensive fail!
Apple every once in a while does something outrageous, the result being people get furious and start posting their feedbacks. This cycle goes on and on. Even in the last 5 years, there have been products just so unnecessary and people have had lost it when they were released. Products like:
Something of this sort happened just a few months ago when Apple released the MacPro Wheels which where 700$ and the internet just fired up.
But what is the reason behind such products?
The obvious reason being profit. But when seeing how many of these products Apple actually decides to sell, it seems something else. To know the real reason we need to go over layer deeper.
All the products I’ve listed earlier have something in common, it is that these products come in the category of luxury items. ( A luxury item is not necessary to live, but it is deemed as highly desirable within a culture or society.)
Apple Mac Reels for this instance, MacPro doesn’t work until it’s Mount to the wall, so even if you wanted to move it around you actually can’t. So exactly what is the reason?
THE PRODUCTS WHICH ARE AS UNNECESSARY AS THEY ARE EXPENSIVE SERVE TO CREATE A PERCEPTION OF SCARCITY AND PRESTIGE THAT IT BECOMES VERY VALUABLE FOR THE CONSUMER BRAND.
Apple makes consumer products, even though they are expensive but they do make consumer products. And for a brand to retain the status symbol brand they need to have products in their portfolio that can be seen only in Influencer’s studio or product placement ad or store walk-ins etc. These products are called “Halo Products”
So how does this help brands like Apple?
(even if these products are hated by almost everyone.)
Well, the answer is simple:
It makes the least interested people talk about Apple or the product. And we’ve all heard this before, “There’s no such thing as bad publicity.” That’s because even in the article about their overpriced wheels, the brand gets the free exposure which they otherwise wouldn’t have gotten without paying for it.
But the story doesn’t end here 😏.
A properly construed opinion piece contains both a thesis and balanced background information to support that thesis. And so professional writers do provide the negative feedback BUT not only that they have positive points, in this case referring to Mac Pro as a beast. Pointing out the price point to be 400$ and Apple’s other great value products like the iPhones’ MacBook’s etc. ( Forbes article)
Now, these articles do help people realize about products but the exposure other products get is something they can’t show in their ads. Or wait they don’t need to cause platforms like Forbes, Medium, etc already cover it for them.
Nice move Apple!🧠😎
Plus these products also help Apple maintain the illusionary “Luxury Brand” status due to the high price points when actually they are a consumer electronics manufacturer.
Do you know who else successfully did this?
